Last week I spent a good amount of my time trying my hand at paper-making. I confess, I’ve never really found an ‘in’ to paper-making before. Recently I’ve been printing up cyanotypes and really fell in love with the process — I decided to take the plunge and make blue paper for all the images I’m working with… yeah, yeah, blue paper for blue prints = not that innovative, but…it’s pretty. And I get to do pretty sometimes.

I was never able to post videos I got after my residency — so here’s some stills I was able to cull of one of the many thaumatropes I played around with at a workshop I did while there.

… the loneliness that may come with full self-love and self-actualization is far preferable to the loneliness of being in a relationship where love is not present.

I’m organizing this event — anyone in the Philly area should come out and see these guys. Not only can I vouch for them being super stand-up human beings but, they also write/draw/create great work…
You can follow them here and find out more.
**update!** as of 9/17 Philly based illustrator and cartoonist Mike Sgier will be joining the stage, reading from some of his own work.

Only into the second full week of school and I’m already stoked on some of the things I’m making. Cyanotypes on handmade paper. I see the future and it involves me making a lot more paper.

Obsessions…

…One of mine just got featured on the Justseeds Blog. Still not sure how to use my growing collection in some meaningful manner but! Gotta start somewhere. Who are these people? Where are these bags getting printed? Why do some bag companies have these names and not others? (Does that mean these workers getting printed are union? Hmm…)

Moments Leading To…

Silkscreen, paper lithography. Accordion book, edition of two.

So hard to make! I’m still a little frustrated with the technical issues in this book, but I’m so proud — I’ve come so far in bookmaking!

I’m a big fan of to-do lists. Just found this one from my recent artist residency.
